The Voice UK 'to leave the BBC' after fifth series

The Voice contestants
The next series of The Voice UK will be the last to be broadcast on the BBC, after it was "poached by another broadcaster", the corporation says.
Mark Linsey, acting director of BBC Television, said in a statement that it "wouldn't get into a bidding war or pay inflated prices to keep the show".
The next series, which begins in January, will be the fifth to be shown by the BBC.
The show's new broadcaster has not yet been confirmed.
Mr Linsey said: "The BBC is incredibly proud of The Voice, but the fifth series which starts in January will be our last.
"We always said we wouldn't get into a bidding war or pay inflated prices to keep the show, and it's testament to how the BBC has built the programme up - and established it into a mainstay of the Saturday night schedule - that another broadcaster has poached it."

Funding politics

Last month the BBC said it had made a "final" bid to keep the show for two more years.
Boy George and Paloma Faith will join will.i.am and Ricky Wilson on the judging panel for the next series.
The show is currently made for BBC One by production companies Talpa and Wall to Wall. ITV bought Talpa for £355m earlier this year.
The Voice was singled out in a consultation paper published by the government, ahead of the BBC's charter renewal, as a format that is "similar to ITV's X Factor", and which was bought in from overseas rather than being developed in-house.
Culture Secretary John Whittingdale has questioned whether such shows are "distinctive" enough from those aired by commercial rivals.
In August, the BBC's director of television Danny Cohen - who is leaving his role at the end of November - defended the corporation's right to air entertainment shows like The Voice.

Drone crash causes Hollywood electricity blackout

Police are hunting for a drone operator who caused an electricity blackout in West Hollywood, California.
It has emerged that the aircraft in question was flown into power lines on Monday, knocking one to the ground.
About 650 people lost access to electricity for about three hours, according to a local report.
The incident occurred weeks after Los Angeles City Council introduced tougher laws on the use of personal drones.
One of the eye witnesses to the accident was a producer for ABC News.
"All of the sudden [I saw] a flash - like a boom," said Chris Gordon.
"And then sparks and you could see the drone dropping to the ground.
"It landed right over here in the middle of the intersection and cars were actually driving around the drone and it was smoking in the middle of the street."
No one was injured, but the event highlights the risks posed by the increasing popularity of such remote controlled aircraft.
Other recent problems have included a drone crashing into seats during a tennis match at the US Open in New York and a Californian fire department having to temporarily ground helicopters it wanted to use to fight a wildfire because people were using video camera-equipped drones to film the blaze.

On 14 October, LA City Council voted to make it a misdemeanour to violate new drone-related laws that forbid the flight of an aircraft within 25ft (7.6m) of another person or closer than five miles (8km) to an airport.
But elsewhere in the US, some people have taken the matter into their own hands.
In one case a Kentucky man shot down a neighbour's drone that he said had flown over his property.
Earlier this week, a judge dismissed charges against William Meredith of first degree criminal mischief and first degree wanton endangerment.
However, the Ars Technica new site reports that prosecutors still have an opportunity to try to bring the case before a grand jury.

Jim Carrey Carries Ex's Coffin At Funeral

The Hollywood actor grieves with the loved ones of Cathriona White, a make-up artist who was found dead in her LA home last month.
16:45, UK,Saturday 10 October 2015
Jim Carrey has attended the funeral of his ex-girlfriend in Ireland - serving as one of six pallbearers at the service.
The Hollywood star fought back tears as he joined hundreds of others to mourn Cathriona White, a 30-year-old who was found in her Los Angeles home after a suspected suicide.
Carrey had dated the make-up artist in 2012 - but they had been pictured hand in hand earlier this year in New York.
During the service at the Church of Our Lady of Fatima in Co Tipperary, Ms White was described as someone "with an amazing capacity to love and to be loved".
Her stepsister, Sarah, told mourners: "We need to find comfort for each other. There is no easy fix for grief, particularly when we have lost somebody so young with so much left to give."
Carrey has described Ms White's death on 28 September as like being "hit with a lightning bolt".

Father Tadhg Furlong added: "Cathriona's approach to life was to take on, to challenge the country, the country, the world.
"You remember the outgoing personality - the strong-willed, determined character.
"Cathriona was a light to so many. Something of the light has gone out, yet much remains."
Ms White moved to LA in 2009 and took roles as an extra on a television show before working behind the scenes.
A death notice said she was sadly missed by her sisters and brothers Lisa, James, Larina, Sarah and Tadhg, her stepmother Brid, mother Brigid, grandmother Lily, grandfather James and extended family members and a wide circle of friends.

Kanye West For President? Obama Offers Tips

Mr Obama gives West some comical advice - "just some stuff I've picked up on the way" - for his bid to become the next President.
06:21, UK,Sunday 11 October 2015
President Barack Obama has offered Kanye West some tongue-in-cheek advice for saying he is planning to run for the White House in 2020.
"In case Kanye is serious about this whole POTUS thing - or as he calls it, 'peezy' - I do have some advice for him," Mr Obama joked during a fundraising event in San Francisco at which the rapper was scheduled to perform.
The President offered three tips for the would-be candidate.
"First of all, you've got to spend a lot of time dealing with some strange characters who behave like they're on a reality TV show. So you've just to be cool with that."
The second piece of advice made reference to a popular West album: "Saying that you have a 'Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy' - that's what's known as 'off-message' in politics. You can't say something like that."
And the final number three poked fun at Chicago's south side, where both men have lived: "Do you really think that this country is going to elect a black guy from the south side of Chicago with a funny name to be president of the United States?
"That is crazy. That's cray!"
West, 38, announced his ambitions for the White House when he gave a rambling speech at the MTV Video Music Awards in August.
Most people had written off his remarks as a joke, yet in an interview with Vanity Fair magazine last month, West said he would "definitely" go ahead with his plans.

EMMA WATSON AND BRADLEY COOPER PRAISE JENNIFER LAWRENCE'S LETTER ABOUT THE GENDER PAY GAP

jennifer lawrence at Comic Con
Following Jennifer Lawrence's absolutely kick ass open letter about Hollywood's gender pay gap, her costars and fellow celebrities have spoken out and praised her for making a stand.
ICYMI, Jennifer wrote an essay for Lena Dunham's email newsletter, Lenny, and revealed the extend to which females are paid less in the acting industry. She commented on how she's previously shied away from making a fuss about it because she was worried about what other's thought, but that now she is is 'over trying to find the 'adorable' way to state her opinion.
She explained:
"When the Sony hack happened and I found out how much less I was being paid than the lucky people with dicks, I didn't get mad at Sony. I got mad at myself. I failed as a negotiator because I gave up early. I didn't want to keep fighting over millions of dollars that, frankly, due to two franchises, I don't need. (I told you it wasn't relatable, don't hate me).
"But if I'm honest with myself, I would be lying if I didn't say there was an element of wanting to be liked that influenced my decision to close the deal without a real fight. I didn't want to seem "difficult" or "spoiled." At the time, that seemed like a fine idea, until I saw the payroll on the Internet and realised every man I was working with definitely didn't worry about being "difficult" or "spoiled."
You can read her full essay here, just as Emma Watson, Bradley Cooper and other famous types have done and since praised J-Law for.

Taking to twitter to show her support, Emma Watson wrote: "O Jennifer Lawrence I love you so. X", whilst Elizabeth Banks wrote: "I love Jennifer Lawrence." and Jessica Chastain shared: "Yesssssssss! Get it girl xx".
As for Bradley Cooper, who was Jen's costar in American Hustle when the Sony hacking scandalhappened, has supported her for speaking out and making a stand, adding that Sienna Miller - who starred alongside him in American Sniper - has also done the same.
Emma Watson supporting Jennifer Lawrence
"If you think that you only deserve a certain amount and that's not correct," He started. "It's about changing that mindset and sticking up for yourself the way that Sienna did. So that's a great thing.
"There's a double standard in the whole world, yeah, for sure. This is just one aspect. Anytime there's a place where a voice can come out and be outspoken – something Sienna did, or Jennifer – that's great … I think it is making a difference."
