Former president George H.W. Bush, 91, is still recovering from a fractured vertebrae in his neck, but it wasn't going to stop him from throwing out the ceremonial first pitch before a playoff game involving his beloved Houston Astros on Sunday night.
Bush, who was wearing a brace on his neck from a fall he suffered in July, threw a short, left-handed pitch from his wheelchair to the Astros' Jed Lowrie at Minute Maid Park to get the home crowd fired up. Accompanied by former first lady Barbara Bush and wearing orange socks to go with his Astros jersey, he got a hug from Lowrie after his pitch. In its first home playoff game in 10 years, Houston went on to beat the Kansas City Royals 4-2 to take a 2-1 lead in the American League Division Series.
